I’ve Got Gas
By Steve
My new employer is in the news today, so I figure I might as well spill the beans. I’m working as an entry-level associate junior producer-like guy at Redmond’s own Gas Powered Games, makers of fine family entertainment like Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, and the just-announced today Space Siege.
I am not, however, working on any of those games or franchises or series’ or sequels. Or anything else rumored or announced. In fact, nothing I’m working on actually exists. And if it/they did, I couldn’t tell anyone. Yet. Assuming there was even something I could tell anyone. Which there isn’t.
So what am I doing? Chris Taylor basically throws things at me all day, and I say, “Yes sir, thank you sir.” And then I feed him dried fruit from Whole Foods.
(Actually, we had a meeting in his office one day, and he had ungodly amounts of dried fruit and nuts… it was quite the spread. By the end, we did reach one consensus: The non-organic mango was better than the organic variety. And people wonder why games are always delayed….)

Nice move. Are you going to be at this crazy E3 at all next week? I almost was going to ask if you would be in the Space Siege meeting, but I guess not, since you’re not on it…

Nope, I’ll be missing my first E3, which is sort of exciting. I’m so looking forward to not being there.

Ungodly amounts of dried fruit and nuts? As I suspected…Chris Taylor is actually a SQUIRREL.

Congrats! Please don’t get too busy to stop updating your blog.

Err, to keep updating it, rather.

I like how you left us without a conclusion after you opened up those parenthesis. Okay, so it was a conclusion, but it didn’t feel like one.

“…an entry-level associate junior producer-like guy”
That’s quite a mouthful of a job title. Seriously, congratulations on the new occupation. But… are you sure you won’t miss good ‘ole Vermont? :)

Will Space Siege actually have a siege? Because Dungeon Siege didn’t.

Congrats, I guess. I guess my now-joyless plod out to the mailbox is a burden that I will have to learn to bear. I was kinda hoping you’d get the band back together. After a decade or so of spending an hour or two every month hanging (albeit asynchronously) with you guys, it’s been a real loss.
At any rate: good luck to you (and Chick, and Yans and… ) Thank you all for the great read and involuntary laughs over the years.

It’s not just my trips out to the mailbox that are bittersweet. The very idea of gaming is sour at best now. I’ve just now realized that I missed an entire E3 event. The reason: I’ve completely lost all motivation to stay even remotely up to date on industry news ever since CGM’s demise.
I haven’t really bought anything since then either, although I meant to buy Sam & Max as soon as it hit Steam. I still haven’t. I’m sure I’ll pick up on the habbit again some day within the year, but for now it’s on stand by, and I’m continuing to replay the generic go to games of my career.
